Update: Man fatally shot by Border Patrol identified

A man killed last week in shooting southwest of Tucson by a Border Patrol agent has been identified. Edgar Amaro López, 23, died of a single gunshot wound to the head. A truck he was in was pulled over Friday morning. Those riding in it "were smugglers and were armed," said an attorney representing one of the agents.

Why did a shooting occur?  Because three men were in a vehicle?  And why shot in the head?  I’m thinking there may be a bit more information available.

Great questions. We’ve asked ‘em, and will continue to do so. If there were more information available from the Border Patrol or FBI, it’d be in the story. Both agencies are known for not releasing information — BP was “awarded” the 2013 Golden Padlock from Investigative Reporters and Editors.
