City vague on details of streetcar ridership

In the first week of paid ridership, Tucsonans took 28,000 trips aboard the new streetcar system. While disclosing that the streetcar had an average of 3,900 riding daily, city officials were reluctant to discuss how many of those riders were paying members of the general public. The figures released are based on counting every time someone steps on or off a streetcar, including drivers, Sun Link staff and police.

So, apparently the term “rider” is highly subjective in this context.

I personally define “rider” in this context as someone who pays the full fare. And, for folks who buy the day pass and get on and get off and get on and get off, should only be counted as one because only one fare is collected.

We should be measuring ridership based on what is collected at the sometimes-working fareboxes, not a sensor at the door.

‘Riders’ are different from ‘fares’. Each should be counted separately. If someone gets on and off multiple times using a day pass, they should be counted as multiple riders, but one fare.

REMEMBER the first several days after the First Free Weekend, how PROUD they were to announce ridership numbers?

HaHAHAHA, what utter bullsh*t!  The street car was ALWAYS about the insider deals.

Next up? They’ll tell us how they now want to “extend the range” (ie tear up MORE streets, make MORE track) to Protect Tucson’s investment…!!

Scam, Scam, Scam!!!

Roy, most folks seem to get senile with age and lose their minds as the years go by. Based on your posts of the last year or so, I think the exact opposite is happening in your case. You used to be a straight-up crackpot. But, the last few months, you’ve been making a lot of sense. Whatever you’ve changed in the last couple of years, keep it up.
