Shooting survivors, citizens speak with new Congressman Barber

A crowd of about 250 braved a blazing sun and intense heat to meet with their congressman Saturday. Some of them braved memories of a similar event 18 months ago, as they met with newly elected U.S. Rep. Ron Barber at the first "Congress On Your Corner" event since the Jan. 8 shootings.

I think the timing of this event was irresponsible…no, not shootings or anything like that. You don’t hold an outdoor event in those blazing temps. There are health concerns, and someone could have become very ill.

That said, I am pleased to see that there are many who understand that Loughner is just an idiot and that they shouldn’t let that asshole change the way they live their lives and what they choose to do.

I hope Barber doesn’t end up being the most anti-gun congressman to have ever held that seat (Udall, McNulty, Kolbe, Giffords, Barber).  The Democrat Party, in general, has been very hostile to firearms ownership.  We wish Barber well, but we’ll be watching him.
