Yuma Mayor Al Krieger, commenting on the move to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" during a Memorial Day speech, called gay troops "lacy-drawered, limp-wristed people." After a national uproar, he's issued an apology.

Arizona has become a place where yahoos can get into office - and it isn’t just insane and embarrassing, it’s scary. We’ve got the likes of Sylvia Allen and Russell Pearce in the legislature. These people are not smart and they are not educated, but upon election to the legislature they are given the authority to write laws. Think about it. Think about your redneck, gun-toting, beer-swilling neighbor writing laws that govern your life. Put him in a suit, give him a script for electioneering, and that could be your next legislator. Come on, Arizona; we can do better than this. We have to.
