Our minds are geared toward pattern matching for threats, seeing conspiracy, it kept us alive in our evolution. When we heard a rustle in the bush, a false positive is fine but a false negative gets us or our offspring killed. If we stumble upon a a kill zone in the forest, we better recognize the neighboring tribe or someone in our tribe is hurting others. Straps on a tree could have many explanations at a camp, so could mirrors and mouthwash, and someone who needed or scavenged an old crib. I remember building forts in the Tucson desert growing up, I setup all kinds of wacky things, god know what these people would think if they stumbled upon it. This reminds me of the ghost hunting shows, now we’re gonna have pedo hunters that point to a container can on the ground near a tree and are like “look, a rape bucket!”
Disgusting “reporting” based on conclusions of a veterans group still fighting the last war. Our broadcast media do not serve us well. They are sensationalist, divisive, and on the verge of becoming anti-poor, which means in objective terms becoming anti-most of us, since we are progressively impoverished, always on the edge of crisis and homelessness ourselves. One might say, this report verged on fascism. KGUN and other media toting this bilge, just to sell more soap or hearing-aids ads, disserve Tucson more often than not.
