CBP: 3-D-printed full-auto rifle seized at Lukeville crossing

Border officers in Lukeville arrested a U.S. citizen Saturday after they found a cache of weapons in his car, including an semi-automatic rifle modified with a 3-D-printed receiver, allowing the weapon to fire in full automatic mode.

The headline is a bit misleading, the fact that the lower receiver is 3D printed or commercially manufactured is not part of the conversion from semi-automatic to automatic.  All of the changes for this modification are part of the “upper” and trigger assembly.
Current law already makes if very difficult to purchase the parts necessary.  At most such issues are an enforcement issues not 3D printer (or other home made method) issues.
