Freshman Anisah Triste hit a home run and was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored in Pima's 6-2 loss in the first game. She started the second game and pitched six and one-third innings and was 1 for 3 with a run scored before it was called due to darkness.

The Pima Aztecs softball program added former University of Arizona pitcher Taylor McQuillin to its coaching staff on Sunday. McQuillin helped lead the Wildcats to their first Women's College World Series since 2010. She will assist Pima pitching coach Nicki Johnson.

Sophomore Devynn Marshall (Shadow Ridge HS) hit an RBI triple in the 1st inning to get the Aztecs on the scoreboard but Arizona Western College's offense proved to be too much. The Aztecs fell 11-2 in 5 innings as they took third place at the NJCAA Region I, Division I Tournament. The Aztecs finished with a 30-28 overall record.

The Aztecs softball team recognized their six sophomores after sweeping Mesa Community College and earning the final spot in the NJCAA Region I, Division I Tournament next week in Yuma.
