Aztecs softball picked up the road doubleheader sweep as they beat Paradise Valley Community College 6-1 and 11-7. Sophomore Elise Munoz (Salpointe Catholic HS) went 6 for 7 with four RBIs, three runs scored and four doubles on the day while freshman Genesis Zazueta (Tucson Magnet HS) pitched a complete-game, giving up one run (one earned) on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk in the first game.

The Pima Community College softball team (16-13, 13-7 in ACCAC) played its fourth straight ACCAC road doubleheader on Saturday at Paradise Valley Community College (4-17, 4-17). Read more»

Sophomore Mia Casadei (Tanque Verde HS) and freshman Mina Chacon (Tucson Magnet HS) combined to go 4 for 7 with seven RBIs and five runs scored in the first game as the Aztecs softball team split at South Mountain Community College winning 15-7 and falling 9-3. The Aztecs are now 14-13 overall and 11-7 in ACCAC conference play.

Freshman Camila Zepeda (Tucson Magnet HS) was part of the barrage of offense for the Aztecs in the second game as she hit a three-run homer and finished the day 4 for 8 with four RBIs and two runs scored. The Aztecs earned a split at Eastern Arizona College falling 9-1 in 6 innings but winning 11-4 in the second game. The Aztecs are 6-7 overall and 3-1 in ACCAC conference play.

Sophomore Stephanie Tapia (Cibola HS) will play at the NCAA Division I level as she committed to play at Texas A&M University-Commerce. They are out of the Southland Conference. She led the Aztecs with 17 homers and 45 RBIs last season.

Pima Softball went 1-2 in the first day of the CSN Kickoff Classic in Henderson, NV. The Aztecs play two games on Saturday to close out play.

Aztecs softball infielder Shannon Vivoda signed her NCAA Division I letter of intent to Baylor University in Waco, TX. She batted .336 with nine homers and 28 RBIs in 41 games in her only season with the Aztecs. She also earned Third Team NJCAA All-Academic honors.

Sophomore catcher Kelli Samorano (Tucson Magnet HS) signed her letter of intent to transfer to Ottawa University Arizona, an NAIA school in Surprise, AZ. She was named Third Team All-ACCAC this season after batting .357. She also earned Third Team NJCAA All-Academic honors.

Freshman first-baseman Alejandra Castro was selected the Chapman Automotive Aztecs Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday for the week of May 2-8. She hit four homers with nine RBIs and eight runs scored. Castro maintains a 3.0-3.5 GPA range and helps tutor teammates in Spanish. She also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and Love of Reading.

Aztecs softball sophomores Faith Orton (Amphitheater HS) and Kelli Samorano (Tucson Magnet HS) were named Third Team All-ACCAC. Orton batted .337 with 14 runs, nine extra-base hits, 31 RBIs and six walks while Samorano batted .357 with 20 runs, 10 extra-base hits, 20 RBIs and 10 walks. The Aztecs compete in the NJCAA Region I, Division I Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Prescott, AZ.
