Freshman Gage Mestas finished the day 5 for 8 with two RBIs, three runs scored and four stolen bases as Aztecs baseball swept Mesa Community College 10-0 in 5 innings and 5-2. The Aztecs have won seven straight and earned their third straight ACCAC conference sweep. They are now 20-10 overall and 9-7 in ACCAC conference play.

Sophomore Emilio Corona hit six home runs with 16 RBIs and 11 runs scored in six games as he was named ACCAC Division I Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 14-20. The Aztecs went 4-2; splitting with Yavapai College and taking three of four games from Community Christian College. Corona leads the NJCAA with nine home runs and 30 RBIs. He is lead for the lead with 26 runs scored.

Baseball’s stoppage means it is unlikely exhibition games will start as scheduled on Feb. 26 and ballparks include Salt River Fields could remain empty. Opening Day on March 31 could also be delayed.
