Arizona Theatre Company director to leave Spring 2023
Arizona Theatre Company Artistic Director Sean Daniels is leaving in the spring to become the associate director of Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota.
The Mesa native has been ATC's Kasser Family Artistic Director and co-CEO since 2019. For the time being, Daniels will continue in his role as artistic director until ATC staff and Board of Trustees "develop a succession plan and undertake a nationwide search for the next Artistic Director."
ATC announced on Tuesday that Daniels was leaving.
When the pandemic began, Daniels was in his second year of tenure at ATC. Board of Trustees Chair Char Augenstein said having the joint leadership of Managing Director Geri Wright and Daniels as artistic director made the organization one that is "equipped to thrive in uncertain and changing times."
"The Lion" will still be directed by Daniels, which will run in Tucson from September 24 until October 15. The musical will then run from October 20 to November 6 in Phoenix. He will also direct the premiere of "Pru Payne" next spring, according to ATC.
Daniels said in ATC's press release that he is "dedicated to ensuring the success of every production" and he is proud of the work accomplished by the company.
