Bear down, or bottoms up?
Playboy ranks UA as one of nation's top party schools
The University of Arizona's making news for something other than President Ann Weaver Hart's imperious ways, with Playboy ranking the "wet and wild" college as the No. 4 party school in the United States. The magazine's staff may have also been partaking: the report refers to Tucson's "Fourth Street bar scene."
Arizona State University didn't make this year's list; Tempe Normal was ranked ninth in 2013.
The UA was ranked at No. 5 in 2009 by the magazine.
2014's top 10 schools offering "numerous and frequent opportunities for collective debauchery" are:
- 1. University of Pennsylvania
- 2. University of Wisconsin
- 3. West Virginia University
- 4. University of Arizona
- 5. University of Iowa
- 6. University of California, Santa Cruz
- 7. University of Miami
- 8. Colorado State University
- 9. University of Texas
- 10. Syracuse University
Said Playboy of Arizona's land-grant institution:
Zona students are experts in that wonderful combination of hydration, inebriation and sartorial minimalism otherwise known as the pool party. The king of them all is the annual Sigma Alpha Epsilon Jungle Party, which features a 65,000-gallon pool, a faux waterfall and a massive tree house. But you need not go Greek to go hard: Tucson’s Fourth Street bar scene teems with partying Wildcats whose hangovers can be mitigated with some of the best Mexican food in the country.
