Pima football standouts Woods & Bowers named All-Americans

The Pima Community College football program produced NJCAA All-Americans for the third straight year as the selections were released on Tuesday.

Sophomore defensive back Haki Woods and sophomore punter John Bowers were named second team All-American Defense and Special Teams respectively.

Woods was named first team All-WSFL and first team All-ACCAC. He had 45 tackles (35 solo) with five pass break-ups on the season. He committed to continue his education and collegiate playing career at the University of Oregon and will sign his letter of intent on Wednesday.

Bowers was also named first team All-WSFL and first team All-ACCAC. He had 59 punts on the season for a total of 2,654 yards; which averaged out to 45 yards per punt. He put down 16 inside the 20-yardline. Bowers has not committed to a four-year school as of Tuesday.

Former Pima wide receiver Jeff Cotton (Mountain View HS) was named NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American Offense last season. Wesley and Landry Payne were selected first team NJCAA All-American Defense in 2015.

Football players can sign their four-year letters of intent starting tomorrow. Woods, along with Bryant Pirtle (University of Utah), Aaron Maddox (University of Colorado), Keith Brigham (University of Memphis) and DeMarco Corbin (Tennessee State University) will sign their letters of intent.
