Sophomores flex muscles as Pima women's soccer dismantles GateWay

The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (6-5-3) put one back in the win column on Thursday as it dominated GateWay Community College (2-9-2).

The Aztecs scored three goals in the second half to take control in their 4-0 win over the Geckos.

Sophomores Kylee Martin (Sahuaro HS), Perla Blanco (Sunnyside HS), Paola Ruedaflores (Nogales HS) and Annalisa Verdugo (Pueblo HS) all netted goals for the Aztecs.

The defense held GateWay to one shot on goal for the game. Sophomore Mackenzie Bernal (Tanque Verde HS) had one save in the second half. Freshman Haven Chambers (Walden Grove HS) played the first half with no saves.

The Aztecs swept the regular season meetings with the Geckos. Pima won 2-0 last month in Phoenix.

The Aztecs will play an afternoon game on Saturday at Scottsdale Community College. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. The Aztecs and the Artichokes played to a 2-2 tie in their first meeting last month.
