PCC volleyball goes 4-1 at San Diego tourney

Holliday named all-tournament

The Pima Community College volleyball team (13-9) swept through pool play and the semifinals on Saturday at the San Diego City College Tournament, but the Aztecs lost in the championship match.

The Aztecs fell to Glendale Community College in three sets, 25-13, 25-16, 25-23. In the semifinals, Pima beat Cerritos College in three sets to advance, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21.

Sophomore Jamie Holliday (Sahauro HS) was named to the all-tournament team after she finished with 43 kills and 48 digs in four matches. Sophomore Miranda Bingham (Safford HS) finished the five matches played with 137 assists and 53 digs. Sophomore Angel Chavez (Mingus Union HS) had 75 digs and six aces and the five matches.

The Aztecs swept through tournament pool play as they defeated Cuesta College (CA) in three sets 25-15, 25-16, 25-18. Then they went on to sweep Cuyamaca College (CA) 25-11, 25-16, 25-18). Finally, the Aztecs beat Cerritos College (CA) 25-21, 25-18, 25-14.

The Aztecs will get back to ACCAC conference play on Wednesday at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The match starts at 7 p.m.
