Baldwin and Holliday each post 10 kills but Aztec volleyball drops opener

The Pima Community College volleyball team (2-3, 0-1 in ACCAC) played a tough match in Phoenix to open conference play on Friday. 

The Aztecs tied up the best-of-five match in the second set but fell in four games at South Mountain Community College: 25-21, 24-26, 25-20, 25-22. Pima lost to South Mountain in five sets in a non-conference match at the New Mexico Military Classic last week.

Mianda Bingham (Safford HS), who was named to the NMMI Classic All-tournament team last week, finished with 39 assists and 12 digs for the Aztecs. Kristin Baldwin (Thatcher HS) had 10 kills and five blocks while Jamie Holliday (Sahuaro HS) also contributed with 10 kills and 12 digs. Angel Chavez (Mingus Union HS) finished with 35 digs and two aces.

The Aztecs will play their regular season home opener at the West Campus gymnasium on Wednesday against Phoenix College. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
