Sophomores shine but Pima volleyball drops two matches at NMMI Classic

The Pima Community College volleyball team kicked off the 2017 season on Friday as part of the New Mexico Military Classic Tournament in Roswell, N.M.

The Aztecs fell in their opening matches but sophomores Victoria Davis (Sahuaro HS), Kayli Riesgo (Cienega HS) and Anissa Conrad (Sahuaro HS) shone for Pima.

The Aztecs dropped their opening match to Garden City Community College in straight sets (25-23, 25-17, 25-23). Davis finished with nine kills, 11 digs and two aces. Riesgo posted 21 assists and one ace. Conrad had 16 digs for the match.

In their second match of the day, the Aztecs fell in straight sets to Seward County Community College (25-11, 25-17, 25-17). Davis had 12 kills, 15 digs and one ace for the match. Riesgo finished with 26 assists, two aces and one block. Conrad also had two aces along with 16 digs. Sophomore Jamie Ricksecker ((Pusch Ridge Christian HS) and freshman Caley Bringmann each had four kills.

The Aztecs will close out the NMMI Classic Tournament on Saturday. They’ll play Hutchinson Community College at 10 a.m. (MST) and close it against host New Mexico Military Institute at 2 p.m.
