The first seven Sacramento batters of the game reached base and scored Saturday in the River Cats' 9-5 win over the Tucson Padres.
The first five hitters reached in a span of seven pitches in an inning that saw 12 batters, five hits, two walks, a hit batter and a Padres' error. The Padres scored once in the third and four times in the fifth to creep back into the game but were unable to score the rest of the night.
The Padres bullpen was very strong after Robert Musgrave departed. Aaron Poreda pitched three shutout innings, striking out five, and Greg Burke and Will Inman each pitched scoreless innings for Tucson. Saturday was the Triple-A debut of Stiven Osuna, who joined the T-Pads last road trip from Single-A Fort Wayne. Osuna allowed two runs in three innings of work in his first game above Single-A.
Anthony Contreras was 3-for-4 with a double for Tucson. Drew Macias, Steve Tolleson and Matt Clark had two hits each. With the loss and the Sacramento win, the Tucson Padres were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
Tim Hagerty is the play-by-play announcer for the Tucson Padres.
