Pima tennis Ou and Boyer win consolation finals to close out NJCAA Nationals

The Pima Community College men’s tennis team closed out the 2018 season on Friday in the final day of the NJCAA National Championship in Plano. Texas.

The Aztecs came into the day tied for 18th in the standings with 10 points after four days of competition. The final standings will be updated on the NJCAA website later this afternoon or tomorrow.

Sophomore Tomothy Ou won the rubber match against Jorge Sala from Mesa Community College in the No. 1 singles flight consolation final 6-1, 6-3. Ou took the first meeting 6-2, 6-2 in February and lost a month later to Sala in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Freshman Beau Boyer (Cibola HS) played a tie-breaker in the first set and went on to win his No. 6 singles flight consolation final over Samuel Ghigiarelli from Jacksonville College (FL) 7-6 (1), 6-3.

Freshman Scott Mantelman fell short in his final match at No. 3 singles as he lost to Jordan George from the University of South Carolina Sumter 6-4, 6-2.
