Tucsonenses trounce Yavapai

FC Tucson got off to what their coach termed an "oustanding" start to their season with a 7-2 drubbing of Yavapai FC at a public park in Prescott on Friday night.

Midfielder Glenn Vauss got a hat trick and Salpointe graduate Fernando Gauna scored twice. Other goals were scored by C. J. Kaufmann and Minh Vu.

Vauss has had a variety of roles as a midfielder, and served a two in this game. His first goal was scored when he played on the left wing, beating two defenders to score. Later he was moved to pair up with Jimmy Meglio to make a central midfield duo.

Tucson built up a near insurmountable lead early; they were up 4-0 by the half hour mark.

"Pace, size and experience," were the three advantages that coach Rick Schantz said his team had over the home side.

"Our training made the difference," he added.

Yavapai FC's team has a lot of current Yavapai College players, and managed to attract a crowd of 100 supporters to the game.

FC Tucson's next game is against the Arizona Sahuaros in Phoenix.
