FC Tucson drops road match; Phoenix Rising maintains cheap beer record

FC Tucson dropped another road match on Saturday night with a 2-0 loss to the Richmond Kickers. The match was their first since an April 30 win against Lansing Ignite FC.

The first half was marked by good chances from FC Tucson's Devyn Jambga and Guillermo Delgado. FC Tucson's stingy backline held the home side scoreless until minute 83, when former U.S. youth national team player Joe Gallardo slipped one past Tucson keeper Phillip Ejimadu. Mutaya Mwape extended the lead during stoppage time.

The match marked the debut for Jordan Jones, who signed with the team on May 10. Jones earned all PAC-12 honors while playing for Oregon State from 2014 - 2017 and had 19 appearances for Rio Grande Valley FC Toros last season. He was drafted by Los Angeles FC last January, making him one of two players, along with loanee Ejimadu, with LAFC connections on the FC Tucson roster.

FC Tucson's next game will be at home against Chattanooga Red Wolves FC. The game will be at 7:30 p.m. at Kino North Stadium.

$1 Beer Night

Adam Jahn earned a brace as Phoenix Rising beat Rio Grande Valley FC 3-1 on Friday night. Former FC Tucson player Jon Bakero was on the field along with Tucsonense Austin Ledbetter on loan to the squad. It was the team's eighth consecutive sell-out but they also posted another crucial statistic.

It extended the team's unbeaten streak on $1 Beer Night.

The team has had 10 $1 Dollar Beer Nights, and they've won every single one.

It is likely the best such record in the USL Championship, or in North American soccer, although it is admittedly not well documented. San Antonio FC had a dollar beer night for their home opener, a 3-3 draw to Rising.

The team has been keeping track of the record on press releases, but this time they touted it in their on their on-screen graphics, which attracted attention on Soccer Twitter.

José Bosch, who handles communications for Phoenix Rising and held that job for FC Tucson in the past, has some advice for his old employers.

"FC Tucson won on dollar taco night. Maybe that's something that they should think about more often."
