Aztecs drop pitchers' duel in tourney

It was a classic pitchers' duel on Thursday in the first game of the Region I Semifinals Tournament at Central Arizona College but the Pima Community College baseball team fell short.

Central took the series lead with the 1-0 win after Tyler Booth hit a solo home run off of Julio Felix (Sunnyside HS) with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning. Felix pitched 8 1/3 innings, giving up only one run off five hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Zach Sweety (Ironwood Ridge HS) went 3 for 4 and was a home run away from the cycle. The Aztecs had chances, especially in the sixth inning when Sweety led off with a triple but the offense couldn't capitalize. Sweety also hit a double in the first and a single in the third.

The second game of the three-game series will be 2 p.m. Friday at Central Arizona College.
