Pima trackers set 3 qualifying times in one event

The Pima Community College track and field team had three distance runners set national qualifying marks in the men’s 5000 meter race late Friday at the Sun Angel Invitational at Arizona State University. 

Lucas Ruiz (Flowing Wells HS), Caleb Herrera (Pusch Ridge Christian Academy HS) and Tyler Stamp (Sabino HS) all set national qualifying times in the 5,000-meter race. With the qualifying time for the race set at 15:47, Ruiz finished with a time of 15:29, Herrera crossed the finish line at 15:31 and Stamp closed it out at 15:33.

With the National Junior College Athletic Association National Outdoor Championships a little over a month away, the Aztecs have 16 athletes (nine men, seven women) who have qualified for 19 events.

The Aztecs will compete in the Last Gasp Invitational at Glendale Community College on Saturday.
