Aztec tracker Estrada wins 10,000 meters

The Pima Community College track and field team competed in the first day of the Puma Outdoor Distance & Multi-Meet at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix on Thursday.

Esther Estrada (Nogales HS) won the 10,000-meter race with a time of 41 minutes, 12 seconds, which gave her a Nationals qualifying mark by nine seconds. The set-time to qualify was 41:21.94. Jose Rojas (Rio Rico HS) took first place in the men's steeplechase with a time of 10:15. He came up short for a national qualifying time, which is 9:56.22.

The second day of competition will be on Friday with events starting at 10 a.m.
