The Pima Community College softball team got back on track Tuesday and snapped a 3-game losing streak by sweeping an away doubleheader against Mesa Community College.
Jessica Schneider (Sahuaro HS) went 4 for 5 on the day with three home runs, six RBIs and five runs scored to lead the Aztecs.
The Aztecs won 10-1 in the first game which went five innings because of the mercy rule. Mari Contreras (Sunnyside HS) became a 10-game winner (10-3) after she gave up only two hits and struck out six batters. The 4th inning was a big one for the Aztecs as Alejandra Ortiz (Tucson HS) hit an RBI double which brought around two runs of the inning's five runs. Schneider hit solo homers in the first and third innings. She finished 2 for 2 with three RBIs and three runs scored in the first game.
In the second matchup in Mesa, the Aztecs won 7-1, with Schneider providing another solo home run in the first inning. She finished 2 for 3 with another three RBIs and two runs scored. Jessica Sipe (Mountain View HS) hit a 2-run double as part of the three-run 5th inning for Pima. She finished 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Yvette Alvarez (Sahuarita HS) improved to 9-4 on the year, striking out three and giving up three hits.
The Aztecs improved to 25-7 on the season and 20-4 in conference play. On Thursday, the Aztecs will be in Scottsdale playing Scottsdale Community College in a doubleheader.
