Pima track produces 5 national qualifiers at Sat. meet

Az Community College Athletic Conference competition held at West Campus

The Pima Community College women's track and field team produced national qualifiers in an ACCAC conference meet on Saturday at the West Campus.

Aly Haskell (Empire HS) took first place in the 400 meters with a national qualifying time of 56.32 seconds. Alice Odu (Catalina HS) took first in the triple jump, landing at 38 feet, 10.25 inches.

The other Aztecs who earned national qualifying spots in their events were:

  • Kelsey Montano (Tucson HS), who finished in second in the steeplechase with a time of 12 minutes, 13.65 seconds.
  • Jania Featherstone (Alhambra HS), who finished second in the high jump at 5 feet, 3 inches.
  • Anaiz Zamorano (Desert View HS) run to a second place finish in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:04.62.

In the women's six-way meet, the Aztecs defeated Mesa, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley and Glendale but lost to Central Arizona. The Aztec men beat Mesa, Scottsdale and Paradise Valley; tied with Glendale and lost to Central Arizona.

The next meet for the Pima track and field teams will be the Willie Williams Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the University of Arizona.
