Aztec track begins outdoor competition

The Pima Community College track and field team had no qualifiers for Nationals in the first Outdoor Meet on Saturday at Pima’s West Campus as teams prepare for the Willie Williams Invitational at the University of Arizona next weekend.

In women’s competition, Becca Harris took first in the pole vault and the triple jump events. She finished with a leap of 8-feet, 6 1/4 inches in the pole vault and a jump of 35-5 in the triple jump. Sabrina Montano finished second in the shot put with a throw of 35-9½. 

In men’s competition, Carlos Rojel took first place in the 200-meter dash with time of 23.55 seconds. Labriel Leach was close to qualifying in the 400-meter hurdles as he finished with a time of 55.69. The qualifying time for the event is 55.49. Aren Maxwell was second in the 1500-meter dash with a time of 4:12.31 while Joe Evans finished second in the 110-meter dash with a time of 15.65.

Competition at the Willie Williams Invitational will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m.  Saturday.
