Distance runner Regalado breaks two PCC records at Indoor Nationals

Pima Community College distance runner Nikki Regalado (Cienega HS) made a big splash in the first day of the NJCAA Indoor National Championships at Monroe College in New York on Friday.

Regalado was part of setting two Pima school records in the distance medley relay and the 3,000-meter race. She took second place in the 3,000-meter race, earning All-American status and breaking the school record with a time of 10 minutes, 17.32 seconds. Regalado competed in the distance medley relay with Heidi Lopez (Sunnyside HS), Kathy Fisher (Sahuaro HS) and Raelene Yocupicio (Rio Rico HS). They took third place and set a Pima school record with a time of 12:24.29.

Brianna Rodriguez (Cienega HS) took seventh place in the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, 3 and one-fourth inches.

The Lady Aztecs sit in fifth place out of 17 teams with a score of 16 points.

On the men’s side, Eddie Wilcox (Chandler HS) and Khalil Hakim (Raymond S. Kellis HS) earned points for the Aztecs.

Wilcox finished the high jump tied for fourth place with a jump of 6 feet, 8 inches. Hakim had a jump of 22-11 in the long jump giving him eighth place.

The Aztecs sit in 13th place out of 16 teams with a score of five and a-half points.
