The Pima Coummunity College softball team took care of its home field and dominated Gateway Community College on Saturday in a doubleheader. The Aztecs are riding a 13-game winning streak.
In the first game, the Aztecs won 7-0 as Mari Contreras (Sunnyside HS) got the win to improve her pitching record to 8-2 on the year. She had 10 strikeouts.
On offense, the Aztecs scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to help their cause. Nicole Rascon (Salpointe Catholic) went 3 for 4, scoring two runs and knocking in a run. She also had a triple and a stolen base. Alejandra Ortiz (Tucson HS) contributed by going 1 for 3 with two RBIs.
The Aztecs used a seven-run third inning in the second game to pull away in their 8-0 victory. The Aztecs hit for the cycle in that inning as well: Noelle Medina (San Manuel HS) hit a 2-run homer, Jessica Sipe (Mountain View HS) hit a triple, Aubre Carpenter (Sabino HS) had a double and Shawna Comeaux (Sabino HS) and Nicole Rascon (Salpointe Catholic) each hit a single.
Yvette Alvarez (Sahuarita HS) got the win to improve to 8-2. She struck out five batters in four innings of work.
The Aztecs improved to 22-4 overall and 17-1 in ACCAC conference play. Pima is back on the road to play at Phoenix College on Tuesday.
