Aztec track athletes claim two more records at Indoor Nationals

The Pima Community College track and field teams finished the Indoor National Championships competition in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday at Texas Tech University. The men’s team finished tied for 16th place out of 31 teams with 15 points. The women’s team took 20th out of 30 teams with nine points.

Aly Haskell (Empire HS) took third place in the 600-meter race and broke her own Pima school record with a time of 1 minute, 34.74 seconds. Her old record, set last year, was 1:35.94. 

In men’s competition, Alejandro Valencia (Rio Rico HS) finished seventh in the one-mile run with a school-record time of 4:21.29. He broke the old record set of 4:23.60 set in 2000.

Outdoor competition will begin next Saturday as the Aztecs host the Aztec Outdoor Invitational at the West Campus on Saturday. The events will begin at 11 a.m.
