Mohamed and Lee set national qualifying marks at Aztec Invitational

The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track and field teams hosted the Aztec Invitational at the West Campus on Friday and Saturday.

In men’s competition, distance runner Ahmed Mohamed (Rincon HS) set a national indoor qualifying time in the 1,000-meter race as he took second with a time of 2 minutes, 39.47 seconds. Andrew Lee (Benson HS) set his national indoor qualifying mark in the pole vault as he took fourth place with a vault of 14 feet, 3¼ inches.

In women’s competition, jumper Meghan Sweeney (Red Mountain HS) improved on her national outdoor qualifying mark in the long jump with a jump of 5'-5¼".

The Aztecs now have 13 national tournament qualifying marks and times.

The track and field teams will take a week off from competition and compete on Feb. 21 at the Glendale Indoor Invitational at Glendale Community College. The meet will begin at noon.
