Pima pentathlete Humphrey jumps to first place

The Pima Community College track & fields teams competed in the Paradise Valley Community College Indoor Invitational on Friday and Saturday but the meet had to be cut short because of weather conditions and will resume on Monday.

On the women’s side, the weather didn’t affect Kami Humphrey (Canyon del Oro HS) as she took first place in the women’s indoor pentathlon with a score of 2969. She won the high jump with a jump of 5-feet, 3.25 inches (1.61 meters) and the long jump at 16’5.75” (5.02 meters). She took second place in the shot put with a throw of 31’1” (9.47 meters) and the 800-meter race with a finishing time of 2 minutes, 47.1 seconds.

On the men’s side, competitors were unable to finish all the events in the men’s heptathlon. Jarell Betton (Lake Washington HS) sits in fourth place for Pima with a score of 2361. His best finish was in the shot put, where he took second place with a throw of 37’11.25” (11.56 meters).

Competition will conclude on Monday in Phoenix.
