PCC track marks 6 national qualifiers in first invitational

The Pima Community College track and field teams showed they are ready to compete as they closed out the first invitational of the season at the Paradise Valley CC Indoor Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

In men’s competition, Eddie Wilcox (Chandler HS) nailed the high jump with a 6 feet, 10 ¾-inch mark, which gave him an indoor nationals qualifier. Anfernee Alexander (Santa Cruz Valley Union HS) finished second in the shot put with a national qualifying mark, a throw of 15.01 meters. Alfonso Mejia (Douglas HS) set a qualifying mark in the 600-meter race with a time of 1 minute, 23.45 seconds and Kevin Snead finished the 60-meter race in second place at 7.02 which gave him a national qualifying mark as well. 

Cristian Gutierrez (Kingman HS) took first place in the 35-pound weight throw with a throw of over 46 feet.

Rhiannon Reece (Benson HS) and Kaysee Pilgrim (Barry Goldwater HS) set indoor national qualifying marks in their respected events in women’s competition. Reece pole-vaulted at 10 feet for her qualifier and Pilgrim completed a high jump at 5-1 ¼.

Kathy Fisher (Sahuaro HS) took first place and tied her own school record in the 60-meter race with a time of 9.33. Ericah Edwards (Cienega HS) took first in the 400-meter race with a time of 62.83.

The Aztecs will host The Aztec Indoor Invitational at the West Campus on Feb. 1 at 11 a.m.
