Pima basketball's Fernander named NJCAA & ACCAC Player of the Week

Pima Community College women’s basketball player Shalise Fernander (Flowing Wells HS) was recognized by the NJCAA and the ACCAC for her play during the holiday break from Dec. 14 to Jan. 3.

Fernander, a sophomore forward, was named NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week on Wednesday and ACCAC Division II Player of the Week on Monday after she helped the Aztecs go 4-0 during that stretch. She averaged 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals a game in a conference win over Tohono O’Odham Community College and Bruce Fleck Classic victories over Parkland College, Snow College and South Mountain Community College.

This was the second time an Aztec player was named NJCAA Division II Player of the Week and the fifth time an Aztec was selected ACCAC Division II Player of the Week. The Aztecs have won six straight and eight of their last nine games. They are 12-3 overall and 6-1 in ACCAC conference play.

The Aztecs get back to ACCAC conference play tonight when they host Division I team Arizona Western College at the West Campus. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
