Bribiescas & Long shine for Pima women's basketball in win over Western Texas

The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (6-7) opened 2019 with a big win in the second day of the Bruce Fleck Classic on Tuesday.

The Aztecs defeated Western Texas College (Division I) 94-70. The Aztecs outscored the Westerners 29-13 in the second quarter and took a 51-35 lead at halftime.

The Aztecs went on a 17-3 run between the second and third quarters to take a 57-35 lead. The biggest lead of the game for the Aztecs was 27 points when they held an 82-55 advantage early in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Shauna Bribiescas (Dobson HS) finished with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. Fellow sophomore RyLeigh Long scored 21 points on 9 for 16 shooting.

Sophomore Jacqulynn Nakai (Coconino HS) finished with 18 points and six assists while freshman Hallie Lawson (Campo Verde HS) had 12 points on 5 for 8 shooting and five rebounds.

The Aztecs will close out the Bruce Fleck Classic on Wednesday against South Plains College. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
