I was there last night, and had the privilege of sitting in one of the “suites” near the press box. It’s nice up there—not especially fancy but a great view of the game, and of the Catalinas too.
Much grumbling has been done over the years about this ball park’s chosen location. Indeed, it’s not in a great place to stimulate tourism or attract folks from anywhere too far north of the tracks. If its goal was to be a functioning in the Tucson growth machine, it has clearly failed.
Perhaps, at least for some, that was the whole idea. I don’t want to watch baseball games with a throng of hateful Republican snowbirds who bought Pulte stucco heaps before the bust and expect Tucson to obediently entertain them.
I’m glad they built it in a place that intimidates old white shitheads and doesn’t have an Applebee’s nearby.
