A Tale of Two Candidates

The fat lady has not yet sung, but a poll shows Ron Barber is a strong favorite to defeat Jesse Kelly to win the congressional seat vacant since Gabrielle Giffords resigned in January.

Barber has Giffords' backing, of course, but more importantly, the poll shows voters like him, and they don't like Republican candidate Jesse Kelly.

Fifty-nine percent of voters polled have a negative opinion of Kelly, and we wonder if his well-publicized views on Social Security and Medicare may have something to do with that, in a district (and state) that should have a demographically above average interest in those issues.

Jesse, Jesse, Jesse ... you probably shouldn't have said those things you said about Social Security and Medicare. All politics is local.

Roberto De Vido writes cartoons and comics about politics, sports (and life) from a small fishing and farming village an hour southwest of Tokyo.
