In the face of threats by the United States and other nations to curtail shipments of food aid, North Korea on Thursday launched two short-range missiles and asserted that it plans to launch a satellite next month.

While North Korea claims it is within its rights to launch satellites and that its intentions are peaceful, analysts believe the country is using the launch to test its ability to deliver an intercontinental ballistic missile.
