You say, “but those reforms will be difficult to make. Republicans, who control the House of Representatives, have resisted any efforts to boost the economy through additional spending.”
The Repubs are resisting Obama’s reforms because they are the wrong kind. They will be abdicating their responsibility as an opposition party if they go with it. That is just like Obama saying “let us jump over the cliff” and the Repubs saying, “yes we will jump with you”.
It’s more than just a tough economy that drives capital out of the US. The biggest employer in my county, a mining company, recently made a large investment up in Southern Canada. One of the main reasons they gave for going North was that there is a “mine friendly” environment up there, as opposed to the over-regulated one down here. The green left that control America couldn’t care less about job losses, of course, but a huge number of working class jobs have been lost or never created due to their efforts. Our mining, logging, and oil industries are shadows of what they could be. Thank the Sierra Club and their ilk for that.
Are these fleebaggers all the lefties who threatened to leave during the Bush years? Now they’re fleeing Obama? hee, hee.
If these fleebaggers are lefties as Skipper suspects, then it really becomes very funny. Why? Because they threatened to leave during the Bush years but never did since the Bush economy was still the place to be. Now it is their very own’s economy which is driving them away. Which makes me wonder if the flight up North is motivated by the bad economy or shame has finally become unbearable. Or, maybe both.
