Women found guilty of human smuggling

Two American women were convicted of human smuggling Wednesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.

Kaleena Leah Morales, 28, and Sharae Jakaub, 33, were arrested in July during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Tucson when the women were found to be transporting five people in the country illegally, the Border Patrol said.

A background check found both women had criminal backgrounds.

Morales was convicted in 2005 for aggravated assault and child abuse. Jakaub was convicted in 2008 for a drug violation.

They are scheduled to be sentenced in February.
