$53K in meth seized at Nogales port

Nogales port officers arrested a Mexican man Tuesday for attempting to drive nearly 18 pounds of methamphetamine into the United States.

Officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing arrested Crecencio Garzon-Escalera, 39, after a drug dog alerted to the presence of drugs during a secondary inspection. Officers dismantled the rear seat and turned up 33 packages of methamphetamine, worth an estimated $53,000, stashed behind the backseat of a Ford sedan.

The man was the handed over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations and his vehicle was seized.
