Rep. Barber's office accepting applications for service academies

High school students interested in attending one of the armed forces service academies can get a boost with a congressional nomination from U.S. Rep. Ron Barber.

Congressional representatives can nominate outstanding students who wish to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, or the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point.

While a nomination isn't a guarantee of admission, it helps a potential officer stand out in the pile of applications.

Applicants must meet the admission standards of the academies and interview with Barber’s Academy Nominating Committee to be considered for nomination.

The deadline to apply is Friday Nov. 2. Applications, instructions, and frequently asked questions can be viewed on Barber’s webpage.
