Students stuck at Banks Elementary due to flooding

Students at Banks Elementary School, 3200 S. Lead Flower Ave., are unable to leave the school due to severe flooding in the area, a spokeswoman said.

Buses at the school on the far West Side cannot depart until washes clear. Pima County Sheriff’s deputies will determine when it is safe to leave, said Cara Rene of the Tucson Unified School District.

Roadblocks in the area are preventing vehicles from entering or leaving, Rene said.

Students are with their teachers and will remain inside the school until the area is cleared, she said.

Parents may call the school at 908-5700 for updates and information. Rene said school staffers are trying to call each parent to make them aware of the situation, so phone lines may be busy.
