5 p.m. deadline to request early ballot

More than 30 percent of early ballots already in

Thanks to

Want to join the tens of thousands of Southern Arizonans voting early in the August primary election? You've got until 5 p.m. on Friday to request an early ballot.

Ballots can be requested at www.recorder.pima.gov or by phone: 724-4330.

Nearly one-third of the 222,000 early ballots mailed out in Pima County have already been returned, the county recorder's website showed Friday.

Democrats have been returning the greatest percentage of primary ballots thus far; more than 32 percent of the 110,000 Democratic ballots have been returned, while 27 percent of the 91,000 Republican ballots have been sent back, Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez said Wednesday.

Independent (and "Party Not Designated") voters may cast a ballot by selecting one political party's primary in which to vote: Democratic, Republican or Green. The Libertarian primary is open to registered Libertarians only.

Mail-in ballots must be received before the polls close on Election Day, Aug. 28. They can be mailed back, dropped off at the Recorder's offices at 115 N. Church Ave., or 6550 S. Country Club Rd., or handed in at any polling place.

In-person early voting

If you miss the 5 p.m. deadline, it's still possible to vote early in person. Nine early voting sites are open for walk-ins who wish to cast their ballot before Aug. 28.

Sites are open through the Friday before Aug. 28, with the downtown office open for emergency voting only the day before Election Day.
