J.C. Scott: House Speaker Tobin calls for firefighter benefits

On Friday's edition:

We started the show with Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne, who talked about a suit filed against the federal government over delays in death penalty cases, a suit filed to block the merger of U.S. Airways and American Airlines, his office asking the Election Assistance Commission to OK voter ID laws, and an explanation of Arizona's open meeting law.

23 min: Next up was Arizona House Speaker Andy Tobin, who discussed his support for FEMA aid for those affected by the Yarnell Hill Fire, calling for benefits for all Granite Mountain Hotshot families, as well as the Medicaid expansion referendum and his consideration of a run for Congress in District 1.

43 min: We talked with Sunnyside Governing Board member Buck Crouch, who filed a complaint with Pima County Attorney’s Office and Arizona attorney general claiming three fellow board members violated the state’s open-meetings law. He also congratulated the Sunnyside Little League softball team for winning the the Little League World Series.

51 min: We spoke with KVOI talk show host Emil Franzi, who reviewed the latest news on the Southern Arizona News Examiner, and also commented on calls for investigations into alleged open meetings violations by Tucson City Councilwoman Regina Romero and 3 members of the Sunnyside Governing Board.

83 min: We finished with Ward 2 Tucson City Councilman Paul Cunningham, who talked about the death of Dave Sitton, allegations of open meetings law violations by Romero, private management of the Tucson Convention Center, Sunnyside issues, Davis-Monthan and Air National Guard community support and a possible Sun Van fare increase.
