Border Patrol agents find body hanging from tree on Tohono O'odham Nation

Tohono O'odham Police are investigating a dead body spotted hanging from a tree Wednesday evening by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents near the village of Santa Cruz, about 81 miles southwest of Tucson, authorities said.

A helicopter crew with CBP's Air and Marine Operations spotted and reported seeing what appeared to be a body hanging from a tree, said a Border Patrol spokesman.

Border Patrol agents on the ground responded to the scene and confirmed the helicopter crew's observations, said the spokesman.

Agents maintained custody of the scene until Tohono O'odham Police Department officers arrived and took charge of the investigation.

The BP spokesman said his agency had no further details, referring all requests to tribal police.

A spokesman for the Tohono O'odham department said that the investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with information that may be helpful to investigators is asked call the Tohono O’odham police at 520-383-3275 or to call 911.
