Cooper library to close for June renovations

A Midtown public library will be closed for about three weeks in June, as new computers are installed and the service desk upgraded at the Martha Cooper branch of the Pima County Public Library.

The Cooper library, 1377 N. Catalina Ave., will close June 3, with a reopening scheduled for June 20.

A Comedy Magic Show, presented by Cody Landstrom as part of the Summer Learning event series, will be held June 18 as previously announced, library spokeswoman Holly Schaffer said.

The book drop at the library will be closed during renovations, Schaffer said, and the branch has already been temporarily removed from the interlibrary loan system.

"Renovations to be completed during the closure include upgrades to service desk, installation of new computers in both children’s and computer common areas, construction of an interior book drop, and modifications to computer desks and job help station," she said.

The budget — just less than $100,000 — includes security upgrades, Schaffer said.

Opened in 2006 and named after the former president and founder of the Garden District Neighborhood Association, the Martha Cooper Library served more than 150,000 patrons in 2014-2015, Schaffer said.

During the closure, patrons are encouraged to visit nearby libraries, she said:
