Rodney Glassman announced Tuesday that he has raised more than $500,000 for his U.S. Senate campaign in the three weeks since he declared his candidacy.
The fine print: half of that sum is from Glassman's own wallet.
"Glassman seeded the campaign with $250,000 to show his commitment to Arizona. His goal was to match the amount he put in, and he exceeded that goal," said campaign spokeswoman Dawn Teo in a news release.
"We are very encouraged by the outpouring of support we have received from Arizonans who are ready for new leadership in the U.S. Senate," Glassman said in the release.
Glassman, who resigned his Tucson City Council seat to run, spent months laying the groundwork for his campaign.
Glassman faces Randy Parraz, Rudy Garcia and John Dougherty as he pursues the Democratic nomination. The primary is Aug. 24.
