Amanda Liu, a senior at St. Gregory College Preparatory School, is a semifinalist in the prestigious U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
Amanda, 16, is one of six Arizona high school seniors to be selected, and one of only two in Tucson. Nationally, 560 semifinalists were selected from more than 3,000 candidates, on the basis of superior achievements, leadership qualities, personal character, and involvement in community and school activities.
“Amanda has an exceptional mind and incredible work ethic,’’ said Susan Heintz, St. Gregory head of Upper School. “She is the kind of student who demands much of herself and, in so doing, challenges her teachers and her fellow students to do their best work.
“Amanda is a trailblazer who has made long-lasting contributions to the academic and personal character of the St. Gregory community,’’ Heintz continued.
As many as 141 students will be selected as Presidential Scholars next month. They will be guests of the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars when they are recognized in June in Washington, D.C.
