Man arrested in student abduction cases

A man believed to have abducted a 15-year-old girl was arrested Friday, say authorities.

Timothy Lynn Kreus was arrested based on DNA evidence collected at the scene of the Feb. 5 abduction, says Sgt. Diana Lopez of the Tucson Police Department.

The victim, who escaped, sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital, according to TPD.

The girl was walking home from Catalina High Magnet School, 3645 East Pima Street, and was abducted by a man in the area of East Seneca Street and North Country Club Road.

"The man grabbed her, dragged her into a Ford pickup and drove off. She continuously screamed and fought with the suspect as he drove, resulting in him pushing her out of the truck a short distance away. He fled in the vehicle," said Officer Linda Galindo of TPD at the time of the incident.

Kreus, 43, was taken into custody Friday at 2:45 p.m. at his residence in the 100 block of East Camino Villas. His vehicle, a white Chevy pickup, was at the address where he was arrested near Oracle Road and Wetmore Road, says Deputy Dawn Barkman of the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Police said that a DNA sample from the Feb. 5 incident matched one in a state database.

Barkman said that Kreus is also suspected of involvement in other attempted child abductions in the Tucson area over the last several weeks.

Two other attempted abductions involving schoolgirls were reported on the northwest side and in Marana last month.

"At this time, we are confident that Mr. Kreus is the perpetrator," stated Barkman. "Evidence found in his possession as well as evidence found inside his vehicle link him to both crimes."

Kreus has been charged by TPD with one count each of aggravated assault (adult on minor), aggravated assault with a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument, misconduct involving a weapon, and kidnapping.

He has been charged by the Sheriff's Department with one count each of attempted abduction and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Kreus has been booked into the Pima County Jail.

Last week, Tucson police arrested Steve F. McPherson in connection with the abduction of an 11-year-old girl near West Grant and North Oracle roads.

McPherson has been charged with suspicion of kidnapping a victim under 15 and suspicion of attempted sexual conduct with a minor under 15, say police.
