On the day President Obama unveiled a comprehensive package of gun control and mental health measures, Time magazine put former Tucson congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords on its cover, calling her a "gunfighter," along with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Vice President Joe Biden.
Giffords, who resigned from Congress a year ago to focus on recovering from a shot to the head on Jan. 8, 2011, last week launched a political action committee dedicated to pushing gun control. The group, Americans for Responsible Solutions, hopes to raise $20 million in its first year.

“Question: How could TIME even consider bin Laden for Man of the Year? I’m a TIME subscriber and could not believe they would consider someone of his caliber.
Jim Kelly: Well, the classic definition of TIME’s Person of the Year is the person who most affected the events of the year, for better or for worse. I think what has happened over the years is that the Man of the Year title, Person of the Year title, has become non-honorific. It was never meant to be solely that.”
